The 2024 Gathering of the Cloud Family Association will be October 18-19 in the beautiful, historical area of Fredericksburg, Virginia!

SCHEDULE: Registration begins at 4:00 pm on Friday. Activities on Saturday, and possibly a tour on Sunday if there is enough interest.

Here’s some things to do and places to see in the area:

  • Historic Fredericksburg
  • Four Battlefields, two with guides and special events
  • Historic Port Royal, the area where early Clouds first moved
  • Ferry Farm, the boyhood home of George Washington

A block of rooms has been reserved and will be held until 4 weeks prior to the Gathering.

Rate: King or Double/Double Room $139 + taxes per room per night, including full breakfast (same price being honored for up to three extra days either side of Gathering). Free cancellation until 4:00 on Thursday the 17th.

Contact the hotel at 540-898-5000 and ask for Chris Jones to include extra days with your reservation. Extra days cannot be added on the website (link above).

A welcome message from the Cloud Family Association President, Delishia Porterfield:

While we couldn’t meet in April 2020, I hope I’ll be able to welcome you to my hometown this September! Nashville is home to good food, great music and a rich history. We hope that you will enjoy “The Athens of the South”!

We will have dinner and a speaker Friday night. Saturday morning will include our annual business meeting, informative and fun sessions, and a luncheon.

Nashville has a lot to offer and I hope you will plan to take advantage of some of our historic sites and tours on Sunday. Find fun things to do while visiting on this website: MusicCity.com. Here are a few favorites: The Country Music Hall of Fame, Broadway, The Hermitage, Belle Meade Plantation, Music Row, Tennessee State Museum, The Parthenon, Cheekwood, Fort Negley, The Grand Ole Opry, Ryman Auditorium, or visit Nashville’s Gaylord Opry complete with 9 acres of indoor gardens, an indoor boat ride, restaurants and more! So much to see and do!

Group hotel accommodations and the schedule are below. If you check alternate accommodations in Nashville you will find that downtown and the Vanderbilt areas are much more expensive then the airport area, and we are a little further out than the airport, but I-24 will take us into the city and back quickly (except during rush hour!). This is a special rate for our group since we were booked previously, but had to cancel. Please make your plans – and reservations – as soon as possible.

We are disappointed to have to inform you that the April 2020 Cloud Family Gathering has been postponed until we have a better sense of the public health situation and the emergency has passed.

We apologize for the inconvenience, and hope you are able to cancel reservations with no difficulty. If you have sent in your registration, the secretary will be contacting you about a refund.

Registration begins at 3:00 on Friday, the 17th. We’ll meet and greet, share a meal together Friday evening and have a speaker, David Ewing.

Complete schedule will be in the Journal, coming soon. Saturday speakers include Dr. Tom Hamm (CFA member, professor at Earlham College and Quaker archivist there), a speaker from the Middle Tennessee Genealogical Society, and a speaker sharing about Nashville’s unique role in Women’s Suffrage.

Saturday afternoon we’ll have group tours, with plenty of time on Sunday to round out your week-end with tours of your choice.

The 2018 Cloud Family Gathering will be September 21-23, 2018 at the Inn at Mendenhall, in the Brandywine Valley area of Pennsylvania, the original home of the Clouds when they came from England.

We would love to see you there! The Gathering / Reunion is a bi-annual event sponsored by the Cloud Family Association.

Any Cloud family descendant, relative or friend is welcome to attend (and we hope you will want to join the Association).

CFA Vice President Wendy Wise will be acting as host of the 2018 CFA Gathering. Wendy, Jim and the CFA Board invite you to attend and enjoy the wonderful setting of the historic Brandywine Valley, with lots of opportunities to see your “roots” and find new relatives. Following is information that you will need to plan your trip. It is not too soon to begin making your plans.

Registration Fee for the Gathering: Adults – $70 | Children – $60

Registration Fee includes the following:

  • Friday: coffee, tea, cheese and crackers and fruit trays
  • Saturday buffet luncheon at the hotel
  • Tour of Cloud Family historical sites on Sunday (lunch Sunday not included)

A block of rooms has been reserved at the Inn at Mendenhall, Mendenhall, Pa (near Chadds Ford). The block of rooms is reserved from September 21 to September 23, 2018. Three additional days may be booked at the special rate for those who would like to come early or stay an extra day or two.

The special room rate will be available through August 20, 2018. The room rate is $125.00+ tax per room, per night, double occupancy. Each additional adult in a room is $20.00+tax per person. There is no charge for children 12 and under. This rate is good for 1 to 5 nights, but must all be booked at the same time. Ask for the Cloud Family rate.
